Presenting...the competition

You'll read in the post below this one about my newbie daffodils and their struggles to keep up with the Joneses.  Can you see why I was worried?  I mean look at these overachievers!  They are in FULL BLOOM!  But, then again I figured, why worry?  My farm is covered in daffodils.  All at various stages of growth.  Makes for a longer time in Daffyland.  I like that.  Glass half full...right.

Here comes the BUD!

Even though everyone I talk to about my daffodil project on the hill keeps telling me not to worry, I have been worrying.  I worried because compared to their relatives (elsewhere on the farm) they were a bit slow to progress. 

But this weekend, that all changed.  Maybe it was peer pressure.  Or perhaps my pleading...but dangit...they are growing and budding!  See?  Right there!  (follow the red arrow)  YAY!

Shoe (boot) repair...horse not human

Wednesday night I took Buddy for a ride. You may remember that Bud wears Old Mac G2 boots on all four hooves when we ride our trails. (very rocky in our woods). When we got back to the barn I was removing his boots and I noticed that the one buckle on the one boot was tearing. Bummer. These things are not cheap. $139/pair. And I had just bought them last season...so they were nowhere near ready to be retired.

I am outside the time limit to return them to easycare (defective or not) so I was facing a costly replacement. Until a lightbulb went off in my head. (it's a compact flourescent...btw) I decided to have Mark take the broken boot to the guy that does all of our shoe (as in human shoe) repair. I mean why not? It's a buckle for goodness sakes...and this guy has done great work repairing the MANY muzzles that Cheyenne has managed to destroy. I laugh sometimes...thinking this man likely never imagined that he would one day be repairing a muzzle (for horses). Side note...he only charges $5 to do the repair. Yowza!

So you can only imagine my delight when Mark called me yesterday to inform me that the boot repair would only cost $5. YOWZA! I plan to take pictures of the repair once the boot makes it back to the farm. It is scheduled to be completed on Tuesday. I can't imagine it won't be a fabulous repair. I'll be sure to report back.

Now...what to do with all that money I saved. Hmmmmmm.

Cozy Kitty

Sometimes if I accidently let the fire go too low in the woodstove...Diesel will curl up on my electric blanket.  It's almost like he's giving me the hint Hey dingbat...the fire needs stoking!  Woops...it sure does.  Sorry Sir Diesel.

Buddy's Bday Serenade

Yesterday was Buddy's Birthday. The attempt below might hurt your ears...but we really think Buddy enjoys when we celebrate his birthday with a little ditty. So, we don't care if your ears hurt. Gosh...stop being so selfish!

Hope you enjoy...if not...sorry we hurt your ears. (not really) Don't worry...we don't plan to quit our day jobs.

DaffoHill and DayHillies

A good friend of ours is a landscaper. On a recent job, she was asked to remove all of the daffodil and daylily bulbs from the customer's flower bed. When we visited this weekend, she presented me with a grocery bag FULL of daffodil bulbs and a pot FILLED with daylily bulbs.

So on Sunday I got to digging. I planted them ALL (over 60 holes thank you very much) on the hill as you come up the driveway. I'm so excited for spring now. I'll be sure to post pictures. (that is if they do indeed bloom)

Well...guess what?!Lookie lookie! They are popping up!!! I am SO excited. I can't even begin to tell you. Don't worry...I'll get more pics when they bloom. Promise!

Signs of Spring

Here in Baltimore we are the lucky hosts to a few very well known manufacturers. UnderArmour, Dominos Sugar and Naron candy to name a few. Yup Naron Candy...the folks that make MarySue Easter Eggs. YUM!

Each year, just before Easter, (cause well that just makes sense when you sell lots of Easter candy) Naron puts a GIANT pink blow up Easter rabbit on their building. It is viewable from the JFX (the highway I take to work). To me it is a sign of spring...right along with the little teeny tiny daffodil sprigs that are just starting to pop up in my flower beds and on my hill. Yay!
