Hangin' out at Meadow Creek Farm

Bet you didn't know that Meadow Creek Farm was the cool local hangout for Cicadas.  Yup...we are the "happenin' place" apparently.  Good thing these little buggers...or should I say little buggers shedded externals, don't freak me out.  Cause they are EVERYWHERE!  Yup...this one was on the backside of my Jeep tire.  Makes me not want to move the Jeep...okay...not really.  I'm gonna move it...eventually.  (maybe it will fall off on it's own before then)

Rolling Stone...gonna see my picture on the cover

Okay...so maybe that song isn't exactly transferrable to Mark's newest wall, but I like that song and am happy to know that you too will be singing it the rest of the day. (You're welcome!) Of course this is only if you are as old or older than  me.  You youngen's won't have a clue what I'm talking about.  Go back to your texting, FaceBook, Twitter and Wii.  Leave us adults to chat.

Mark's wall is progressing nicely.  He was able to take some nice pictures this weekend that more accurately portray the cool floating steps design.  He has ideas to add a water feature as well as incorporate a fire pit.  So talented that man o' mine is.  I am so happy he works for free...for me anyway.

Oh you flatter me!

Me:  Hey Frolic...you are soooooo handsome.  A little hunka hunka kitty cutiepie.  That's what you are.

Frolic:  Oh stop!  You flatter me too much!  Psshhhhh...you just stop.  Stop that.  No really...stop!

What? Errrrrr. Melons?

This is slightly embarrassing, but remember when I was all excited about my new watermelons?  Guess what?  They are CANTALOUPES!  See?  Totally different...but just as tasty...so shhhhhh...don't tell them.  Hey...what do you expect from a cityslicker turned country girl?

We GOT What-er-melons!

I know I know...bad grammar.  Who cares...it's my blog and if I want to make my high school english teacher cringe...I will.  But on to more important things...we HAVE (there feel better?) watermelons!  Remember my post about our little watermelon volunteer?  Well...it's producing fruit!  I'm so excited to watch it grow.  And then to eat it.  (shhhhh...don't tell it.)

Ain't nothing finer...

than a hot guy (make my heart go pitter patter) hanging his laundry on the line.    Unless of course he's MY hot guy.  THAT's HOT!

Keeping cool on a budget

I mentioned in an earlier post how Mark and I are tightening our belts.  More on why later (it's a great reason!).  One way I have found to keep cool is to consume as many freezie pops as I can possibly handle.  And by handle I mean hold and type.  I can manage two rather skillfully.  Double fisting the ole freezie pops.  Ahhhhh...life doesn't get much better than this.  (my nifty little camera focused on the flag...sure I could have made an adjustment, but I kinda like it...puts things into perspective.)

What-er-melons!!!

Huh?  How?  Wait?  Where did YOU come from?!  Okay...it doesn't matter...I just hope that the diligent watering (from the emptied stall water buckets) will produce some lovely watermelons.  I'll keep you posted cause this little guy has sprung up in the most unlikely place.  Fun!

Conserving energy

Mark and I have been on a "budget snipping kick" lately.  We negotiated with our DirectTv provider for a lower rate (less channels) but hey we rarely watch tv.  We have only had to turn on our AC once this season and we plan to harvest some of our own firewood for heat this winter.

A few days ago I was turning on the spigot to fill the top field water troughs when I noticed how quickly our meter (that measures our energy consumption) was spinning.  Quick calculation had me determine that our clothes dryer was the only device running at the time.  I was appalled.  Today I put a stop to it.  (No I did not list my dryer on Craigslist).  I did even better.  I rehung my clothes line.  It felt great.

I can smell my clothes drying as I sit on my porch and type.  I think if more folks considered how we expend energy, and made one small change, the world may just be a better place.  Okay...that is a broad statement...but I can guarantee their electric bill would shrink.  Try it...you will be amazed.

Brothers...it runs in the family

We have always thought that Diesel and Frolic were related.  Mostly because of the "how" and "when" they were dumped at our farm.  But, that's not the only reason...they also sound very much alike and have very similar mannerisms.  Perfect example is how they lounge.  See?  They most certainly must be related.  It runs in the family...it's in the genes.  They know a good thing when it happens along.  Smart kitties.

He never rests

As you already know, Mark just completed the drystack stone wall at the front of our property.  It's gorgeous.  The work he did on that wall motivated him to start working on the HUGE retaining wall behind our house.  And not only is he doing a terrific job (of course) but he is adding little touches that will make this wall truly amazing.  Check out the steps!

CB already has the hang of it.  Such a smart kitty she is.

Welcome to July...feed your face month

Cheyenne is happiest in front of her hay bag.  And I am totally okay with that.

Me:  Right Cheyenne?  Aren't you happiest in front of your hay bag?

Cheech:  Huh?  You talking to me?  I was busy stuffing my face from my hay bag.

Me:  Oh yeah...sorry...I WAS talking to you, but see you are busy stuffing your face from your hay bag.  Don't let me interrupt.

Cheech:  That's what I figured.  Now...where was I?  Oh yeah...hellloooo haybag.  Miss me?  'Cause I missed YOU!  Smooches!
