Seti dodged a bullet

Well not exactly, but pretty darn near as serious. On Monday night Seti colicked. I was at dinner with friends when Mark called me. We are very lucky to have a fantastic vet who made two trips to our farm to administer mineral oil and warm water via a nasal tube to Seti. Luckily it worked. This morning we had manure. Yay! All those times I hear folks complaining about how much manure their horses produce, makes me want to remind them, it's much worse when they aren't producing manure. I've never been so happy to see POOP!

This morning Seti was pretty much back to normal. She was happy to come into her stall where she will spend her day lounging under her fan. Ahhhhhh...the sweet life. She certainly deserves it.

Cheyenne turns 5!

In true Meadow Creek Farm tradition...I 'sang' to her. Okay so maybe my definition of singing differs from everyone else on the planet...and I'm sure that dogs within a 5 mile radius were howling...but dang it, it had to be done. I took one for the team...or should I say Cheyenne took one for the team. It was her ears that were assaulted. And now it's your turn! Let the assault begin!

Dogwood blooms...stay tuned

The flowers are here...but the color is "just around" the corner.  See it on the tips there?  Right there?  Look really close.  Don't worry, if you can't see it right now, I'm sure in a few days they will be in full color.  Stay tuned!

Whadda Knockout!

We planted this bush last year after Mark had to put his beloved cat Chinook Wind to sleep.  We thought the rose bush was appropriate as Chinook was beautiful (like the rose) but had a bite (like the thorns).  My oh my is this bush gorgeous.

CB

We renamed our newest addition to the farm after we witnessed first hand how much she (at the time) disliked our other kitties.  She has since relaxed her barriers and is much less CB.  (Crazy Beeotch).  I wonder if a new name is in order?  Perhaps CNF?  (Crazy Nasty Face)?

Don't let the face fool ya...she is really the sweetest thang ever!

Superman? Praying to Allah? Drying his pits?

What the H (double hockey stick) is he doing?  It's okay...I don't know either...he's always slept like this.  Still cracks me up.

Mark and Cheyenne's Maiden Voyage!

I am so proud today.  Proud of Mark and proud of Cheyenne.  Yesteday Mark rode Cheyenne for the first time on a lovely trail ride at Pretty Boy.  And man o' man did those two make me proud.  Cheech is the first horse I have done ALL of the training myself.  I bought her as a yearling and am so happy with how wonderful she has become.  I think Mark is too.

Always the photographer...the only way I can get a shot of me is to do the reverse aim and shoot.

A nice group shot...Mark, Buddy and me.

Next it was Cheyenne's turn.  GROUP shot!

The END!

Suction Cup Kitty!

At Meadow Creek Farm, we pride ourselves on the talents of our four leggers.  Watch CB (our newest addition) as she demonstrates her talents as our resident Suction Cup Kitty.  I think she could have a promising career in window washing.  Don't you agree?

Billy caught a mouse!

Nice try little buddy...but you better get your hiney down to the barn...and learn the proper way to go about this.

Timbre

To say that Mark and I have had bad kitty kharma in the last few weeks is an understatement. It didn't start with Frolic and his unscheduled trip to the animal ER. Last week I found out that my cat Timbre...the one that traveled all the way from Ohio with me in my Jeep, has lymphoma. As you can imagine, it is terminal.

Timbre was losing weight rapidly...I took her for testing, x-rays and ultrasound. The $600 I spent did not give me the answer I was hoping for. I have chosen not to subject Timbre to chemotherapy. It would likely only prolong her life by a few months and I'm not sure the monthly trip to the vet for the treatment and subsequent CBC would be high on her bucket list. I have instead chosen to manage any pain she may have and keep her appetite stimulated. When she tells me it's time, I will humanely let her go.

I am numb right now...but know it will be very hard when that day finally comes. This cat knows so much about me. Man I'm gonna miss her, but am grateful I have her now.

Lifestyles of the rich and (not so) famous

On Monday night I spent $350 to find out that Frolic had something that the ER was unable to diagnose.  We are treating him with antibiotics.

I found Frolic in the barn in what I would describe as a state of shock...barely responsive, drooling with tail twitching.  (BTW...he is up to date on all his shots) I decided to rush him to the local animal ER...he had a low body temp, high white blood cell count and was dehydrated.  Strange.  IV fluids and a good nights sleep on our sofa and he's back to his old self.  Double strange.

Frolic thinks that he would like to be a house cat now.  I wonder if it was all a hoax?  Stinker...EXPENSIVE stinker. (and a good actor too!)

I'm so lucky...

I recently went on a short trip to lower Va.  I was gone for 4 days.  Imagine my surprise when I returned home and found this...(BTW...I REALLY love my man).  He rocks!

But as if the flowers weren't enough...he also got me this...(Below the flowers)  A HUGE 16 gallon super duper heavy duty Craftsman Shop Vac.

Most won't understand this...but that Shop Vac made my week.  I was already thinking of all the things I was gonna clean...starting with my barn.  Cobwebs beware...I'm coming for YOU!

"Time" to monkey around

Mark and I are die hard scooterists...(when we have spare time) we like to ride our vintage Vespas around town.  Like this...my SS180 (Lucia).  She's hot...go ahead...admit it.  She's moi caliente.

I'm even in an all girl scooter club...the Baltimore Bombshells.  We ROCK!

But, what I think I got the most out of scootering, is my love for Paul Frank.  So when I saw this clock in the Goodwill store for $1...I almost fainted.  I bought it and hung it in my horse trailer.  Never will I wonder how long I have been out on the trail.  Fun!

Journeyman Mark

This coming October, Mark will travel to KY to test for his Journeyman Certification in drystack stone walling.  To prepare, he must do a whole list of "types of stacking".  Too many for me to remember....so I called him and got the list.  I'm resourceful like that.  (4ft retaining wall, curved wall, lintel and four tops)  Wow!

Lucky for me, he will likely (okay definitely) do all of them on our farm.  Yay!  Below is the wall he is finishing now.  If you remember, this is the wall Mark started to complete two components for his first certification.  (a wall head and vertical coping).   I am always amazed by his talents.  Amazed.  He hugs and kisses good too.  I certified him in that.

When Iris Eyes are Smiling...

Okay...so that wasn't that funny, but since I thought it was...and this is MY blog, I laughed.  But...check out these beauties!  Have I mentioned lately how much I love spring?

Lovely Iris

First they were like this...

Now they are like this...All over the farm!!!!!  I just love spring.

Oh Dear! Deer!

We've lived at this farm for 5 years.  And I swear, I will never get sick of this site out my front door.  Doesn't get much better than this.
